What a Fantastic Excursion
This was absolutely the right choice. Coming to Alaska for the first time we wanted to get in as much as we could.One of the advantages of Icy Strait Whale Adventures is there boat and the number of passengers, vice a large ship excursion.You can step out on the bow and also the aft deck once you have reached your destination. The boat is clean, well maintained and very comfortable for an expedition such as this.The Captain, Alona is friendly and focused on getting us to where the whales are, and the guide, Leslie is very friendly and knowledgeable. We learned so much from these two. We saw lots of whales.We were in the midst of them. From the moment we stopped the boat. At one time we had them only about 100’ off the boat, blowing their spouts and doing dives. We got plenty of tail shots. We saw sea lions too. We had a great time.You can’t go wrong with this team. Trust me, you will have a whale of a time!!!

An unforgettable experience! Marilyn and John are such a lovely couple and truly exceptional guides. From the moment we met them, we could feel that this wasn't just a standard commercial tour for them—it felt deeply personal. Their warmth, sincerity, and genuine desire to welcome travelers who came all the way out here shone through in everything they did. ​They are incredibly knowledgeable, sharing wonderful stories and insightful details about the local flora, wildlife, and the history of the area. During the scheduled three-hour tour, we didn’t get a clear, close-up look at a bear, but they did everything they could to give us the best experience. They took us to a bridge known for bear sightings and guided us through an unforgettable trail where we watched salmon migrating from the estuary up into the river. At one point, John blew a deer call; hearing that ethereal sound resonate through the wilderness became an instant core memory for me. ​What truly blew us away was their dedication: when they learned none of us had immediate plans afterward, they extended the tour by an extra two hours just to keep searching for bears so we wouldn’t leave disappointed. Thanks to their persistence, we ended up seeing a magnificent adult coastal brown bear from an incredible, close vantage point—an absolutely breathtaking sight! ​Marilyn and John went above and beyond in every possible way. I cannot recommend this tour highly enough!

A Wildlife Discovery Tour We Won't Soon Forget
This was an exceptionally well done tour. Captain Denise was fantastic. Our naturalist, Annalise was full of great information and answered all the questions. The boat was great - clean, comfortable and had plenty of areas for viewing and keeping warm inside when you needed it. We got extremely lucky with our whale sightings which will make it a trip we won't soon forget. Even if nature is unpredictable, they'll go out of their way to show you as much as possible.

Action packed awesome experience. Guides (Elliott and Jack) were great. Great trip for adults and kids. We caught tons of fish. We were a group of 4. (Including 13yr and 10yr old.) It was non-stop action, and we even got to see a few Brown Bears. Very memorable experience!

I can't say enough about Natalie and her guided tour. This was the absolute highlight of our trip to Alaska with me and my son. We hiked for about 20 minutes to the most serene spot and fishing was simply incredible! Pretty much caught them every cast. We caught so many Salmon we decided to try and catch a few trout and did that as well. Simply amazing trip and thank you Natalie!

An excellent tour, and a cheaper alternative to tours offered on the cruise. You are so supporting a local business.
We loved this tour. We didn't follow the pack of other boats but found different whales and had lovely quiet experiences observing them. We also spent time watching sea lions and sea otters and saw some bald eagles too. Pick up from near our cruise ship was helpful too, and directions were clear. Perhaps a bit more explanation about the things we saw and their behaviour would have made it even better.
