Overview
Nathan is a professional portrait photographer by trade, which is something you’d be hard pressed to find on any other Aurora tour in the Fairbanks area. He has 9 years experience as an engagement/wedding photographer. Other tours offer “free portraits” but not to the level of expertise that Nathan will provide, he uses controlled supplemental studio lighting to achieve unmatched quality and sharpness with techniques he developed over 7 years of painstaking practice, specifically in aurora portraiture. We also provide you with complementary gear to help keep you warm and safe: insulated over boots, hand/toe warmers, headlamps, ice crampons for traction, water bottles etc. But what everything boils down to is great photos. The photos speak for themselves and we want to get you some of your OWN!! Not only will you have a top tier photographer as a guide but Nathan also has more than 20 years of Alaska backcountry artic survival skills and offers expertise in all things Alaska adventure.

What To Expect
This ain’t your grandmothers overcrowded Princess Cruse! ;) We’ll trek out on a photography adventure like no other and stay toasty warm as we enter a winter wonderland under the northern lights. The tour is a magical journey through the sparkling frozen tundra, chasing the colorful swirls of aurora borealis overhead. We’ll learn the basic science behind the phenomenon and how to photograph it using your own camera plus you’ll get landscapes and portraits, all included. The trek is a 5-6 hour tour. Depending on cloud coverage we drive 15-40 miles north of Fairbanks to one of many excellent viewing locations. At the stop we set up a cozy heated warming shelter for you. We also offer complimentary gourmet pizzas, hot out of our 930 degree stone fired pizza oven. Also, hot cocoa, coffee and Chai Tea. This adventure always delivers a memorable experience with lots of fun and extras to do while we wait on the aurora to appear.
