Meeting and Pickup
There are three docks in Skagway. Please proceed directly to the greeting area at your arrival location. Your guide will be holding a Rainbow Glacier Adventures sign with a large rainbow logo. If you do not know which dock you are on, please let us know.IMPORTANT: If you do not immediately see your guide, stay at the greeting area and wait. Do not walk toward town.Railroad Dock (Tender or Shuttle Dock) If arriving by tender, walk up the ramp and wait by the "Small Boat Harbor" sign.If arriving by shuttle bus, remain at the shuttle drop-off area.Broadway Dock Walk to the end of the pier in front of your ship, near the start of the train tracks.Ore Dock Walk up the ramp and past security to the greeting area.Hotel & B&B Guests Meet your guide directly in front of your lodging. Look for the Rainbow Glacier Adventures vehicle.PLEASE DO NOT USE Google or Apple Maps, or the map link provided by Viator. These will send you to the wrong location. We pick you up at the bus loading area nearest your ship.Please note our tours depart on time and cannot wait for late arrivals.If you have not located your guide by 15 minutes before your tour departure, please call our office.
What To Expect
Escape the crowds of Skagway on a small group photography tour in the stunning Chilkat Valley. Your expert photographer guide will assist you in capturing the best of the Chilkat Valley's unique attractions.
The trip begins with a 45-minute 100-passenger shuttle catamaran ride along the steep-walled fjord between Skagway and Haines.
Your guide has scouted out the best areas for the day's photo shoot. Since this is a exclusive tour, you will be able to work directly with the guide to decide which locations and subject matter you want to focus on. Depending on the lighting and weather, different locations in the Chilkat Valley boast specific photographic highlights. May, June, and July feature wildflowers and bald eagles. Beginning in August, pink salmon begin their run up the Chilkoot River to spawn and brown bear often come down to the river to feed. When bears are present, every effort will be made to give you safe bear viewing and photography.
The theme is flexibility, fun and learning. A simple point and shoot camera or smartphone will work, but by all means, bring all your photo gear. You’ll return to Skagway by catamaran.
